Decorations for Earth Day and every day
Bring the outdoors in.
Add a touch of rustic, Scandi-inspired décor to your home by bringing the outside in. Pussy willows and twigs look beautiful when intertwined with a pendant light fixture over a dining room table or arranged in a large vase. You could scour the craft and décor shops for artificial branches, or you could simply go for a walk and find your favourite new accessory in your backyard or in the woods.
Beach-casual décor.
Living in Nova Scotia, it’s fair to say everyone has brought a few seashells home from the beach. Why not use them to give your home a casual beachy feel? Gather a few of your most beautiful seashells (beach rocks, sea glass and bits of driftwood also work) and place them in the bottom of a small clear glass vase, fish bowl or jar. If you’re feeling fancy, you could tie a piece of heavy-duty jute twine around the top of your container, and voila! Instant beach-inspired décor.
Light up Earth Day!
Adding candles to your home décor, inside or out, is the simplest way to create instant atmosphere. Gather a selection of jars and empty cans from your cupboard or recycling bin, being sure to choose a variety of shapes and sizes. Carefully place a tea light or votive candle in the bottom of each jar and then place the various jars in a pretty grouping on a dining room sideboard or coffee table. Use a citronella-scented tea light if you’re outside and you’ll enjoy your beautifully-lit centerpiece without the bother of spring’s early mosquitos. As always, be sure to use your candles with care.
