This trail is a breathtaking trek, much of it along awesomely rugged coastline. The trail begins at the beach parking lot and follows the shoreline of two white-sand crescent beaches—an 11km loop hike from end to end. The first kilometer or two is a well-maintained trail of boardwalks, stairs and bridges. After that, it becomes an adventure along the coast and inland, past bus-sized boulders and the crash and spray of the Atlantic.
You might want to warm your insides after this rugged, wind-swept adventure with a Scotian Coffee, featuring Glen Breton Rare Whisky. See recipe.
The views from your hike along the Salt Marsh Trail will leave you breathless. This is a great trail for walkers, runners, hikers, cyclists, dog-walkers and families with strollers. The trails are wide and well-groomed and offer both sunrise and sunset views. There really is a hike or a walk for everyone at Salt Marsh Trail.
After being treated to this trail’s breathtaking scenery, treat yourself to a Black and Vanilla, featuring Nova Scotian spiced rum. See recipe.
Anybody who lives in Nova Scotia knows that the beach isn’t just for the summer. The Risser’s Beach Boardwalk Trail is proof that beaches can be just as beautiful and enjoyable on a sunny spring day as on a hot summer day. On the elevated boardwalk trail that follows an inland marsh, you’ll get a close-up look at this fragile and beautiful habitat.
After this hike, if you can’t decide if you’d prefer a refreshing beer or a refreshing cider, then you'll enjoy a Nova Scotia Snakebite, which features both. See recipe.
