Themed get-togethers have never been more
popular. After all, who doesn’t love a chance to mix
some specialty cocktails with some specialty “attire”
for the occasion. Get creative, starting with
sending out invitations in advance explaining
your theme and be sure to include the “dress
code”. Old school “snail-mail” is fun, if you
have the time, but e-vites also work.
A Tropical Mixer
Celebrate the warm weather with a tropical-themed
mixer. Serve Tiki-inspired cocktails like Mai Tais, Piña
Coladas, Mojitos and Daiquiris. Decorate your
backyard with lanterns and bright colours. Speaking
of bright colours, invite your guests to wear their
“loudest” Hawaiian shirts and shorts.
A 1960’s Mad Men Mixer
The TV show may be over, but its depiction
of 1960’s style and culture left a
lasting impression. At your Mad Men Mixer, serve
classic cocktails like Old Fashioneds, Manhattans,
Gimlets and Whisky Sours. Have your guests dress
in their best retro get-up. For the ladies, that could be
a classic, fitted and floral sundress, with cat-eye
sunglasses for bonus points. For the gents, nothing
says “dapper” like fitted shorts, with a white belt, and
a polo shirt, with a sweater over the shoulders. A
playlist of 1960s tunes will complete the theme.
A Canada 150 Mixer
Canada’s 150th birthday deserves an all-summer long
celebration. Host a Canadian mixer complete
with Canadian cocktails like our country’s iconic
Caesar, Ginger Rum Shandys (using Canada Dry, of
course) and red and white Cosmopolitans (made with
Canadian vodka and cranberry juice). Dress code?
Nothing but red and white, of course!
