Whether you’re hosting a lunch, cocktail hour or dinner, a cloth napkin for your guests is the way to go. Leave the paper napkins for weekday meals at home with the family—this is your time to impress! If you really want to impress, add some fun to your rosé get-together and present each guest’s napkin as an individual rose bud. It’s easy to do, and makes an impression.
1. Lay a square napkin wrong side up. Wrinkles are OK—it makes the rose look more interesting.
2. Fold the napkin into a triangle by taking one corner and bringing it up to the opposite corner. Place the long folded edge of the triangle closest to you.
3. Beginning with the long end, roll the napkin away from you.
4. Roll the entire napkin up. You will end up with a long napkin rope.
5. Beginning on one end and working to the other, roll the napkin rope around itself.
6. Continue wrapping the napkin around itself. Tuck the end of the napkin underneath and into one of the folds in the bottom of the napkin. If the centre of the rosette is indented, pop it out by adding pressure to the back centre of the rosette.
7. To present your handiwork, put the rosette napkins in a little bowl and add real rose leaves.
