About the Owners

Jill McPherson the owner of Island Folk Cider House, worked for many years in international development, focusing on agriculture, sustainability and food security. Drawing from past experience, Jill returned home to create a cider business that supports Nova Scotia farmers by using quality, local ingredients and contributes to the revitalization of Sydney's downtown.

Originally from Truro, NS, Jessie Deleskie is a professionally trained pastry chef and the Production Manager and Lead Cider Maker at Island Folk Cider House. Jessie previously ran a beloved business in Cape Breton that crafted unique cakes and delicious treats for over a decade but has now turned her talents to the cider industry. Incorporating her love of local, quality ingredients, and exciting flavour combinations, Jessie is a natural at developing delicious recipes loved by both cider-enthusiasts and those new to cider.

What Makes Them Unique

Island Folk Cider House is a celebration of art. For every cider they make, Alison Uhma creates an original illustration. Whether for their flagship Good Company cider or a small batch seasonal, Alison is the creative mind and hand behind all Island Folk’s illustrations.

Island Folk Cider House is also a celebration of community. They love to create ciders that celebrate some of the amazing people in their community. For example, they named a peach cider after the community-builder and poet LeRoy Peach. LeRoy has spent decades revitalizing his village of Port Morien.. He exemplifies community pride and spirit, and they hope to follow in his footsteps at Island Folk. Like its namesake, the LeRoy Peach cider is effervescent and 100% original.

Cape Breton's rich and radical past provides a blueprint for rebellion in the present, bringing curiosity and creativity to how they live and brew. Guided by this rebellious spirit, they balance expertise with experimentation to make ciders that upend tradition and taste all the better for it.

Rebel Rosé is the result of this commitment to questioning, challenging and discovering. Rebel Rosé is made with 100% Nova Scotia apples blended with a house-made cranberry wine to create a mouthwatering blush –  the perfect balance of fruit and tartness.
